FIT TO PRINT...ON THE SCREEN: How's this to give those ashen-looking newspapers and their dull articles a little more pizzazz? BBC brings to our attention an augmented reality app, created by Japanese advertising firm Dentsu for the Tokyo Shimbun (literally, the Tokyo newspaper). When the smartphone camera hovers over articles, the app turns typically-dry articles into simpler, kid-friendly versions that, frankly, are probably more concise. (Check out the video here.) Nifty tool and a noble effort, we think. One question though: how many people still read print newspapers? (Not many, at least on this side of the Pacific: readership levels in 2009 fell below that in 1945, according to the FCC.)
