Bamboo Learning, a Seattle-based developer of educational materials for Amazon’s Alexa virtual assistant, has raised a $1.4 million seed round. Amazon’s Alexa Fund, Wavemaker Partners, Unlock Venture Partners, VoicePunch and individuals from Amazon, Apple, Disney and Microsoft participated in the round.
Founded in 2018, Bamboo plans to use this new funding to hire software engineers and content producers, according to a statement Thursday. The company provides audio, images and voice-related services for families to learn about math, music, history and other educational subjects.
Bamboo raised a separate, pre-seed round of funding from the Alexa Fund last year. The company has not disclosed the amount raised in that pre-seed round.
Other fundraises this year for companies that bring voice recognition technology to education include Amira Learning’s $5 million Series A round and Google’s investment in GradeSlam.
