Deborah L. Winston, Ph.D. has been an educator for more than thirty years. She has served as an elementary teacher, reading improvement teacher, assistant principal, academy director, English/language arts supervisor, principal, and currently serves in the capacity of Deputy Executive Director of the Office of Literacy for the Detroit Public Schools Community District.
Educated in the Detroit Public School system, Dr. Winston is committed to serving the students of this district. It is her desire to help provide the best educational environment for all students by providing pertinent professional development to teachers, ensuring that the students of DPS have the best educators before them each day, selecting the best educational resources and promoting the love of literacy among teachers, students, and the community.
She has presented in the area of literacy at both the local and state level and continues to work tirelessly on behalf of Detroit’s students.
Dr. Winston has been awarded The Sky’s the Limit-Literacy Award by the Detroit Association of Black Storytellers and is a member of the Michigan Reading Association and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
