Elijah is the CEO of LightSide Labs, a company he co-founded in 2013 to improve student writing. He was previously a Ph.D. student at the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. He was a recipient of a Siebel Scholarship and an IBM Ph.D. Fellowship, and has been recognized as a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum. LightSide has been featured in NPR, Education Week, and The Atlantic, and research using LightSide for automated essay assessment has been highlighted as an Editor’s Choice in Science. He is author or co-author on more than 25 peer-reviewed publications in machine learning and human-computer interaction in leading international venues.
