Dr. Jeffrey Starr leads the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools Learning Design & Delivery department, overseeing the development and facilitation of a range of professional learning opportunities. He brings a wealth of experience as a learning designer, curriculum developer, educator, and leader with a specialty in online learning. Prior to joining Digital Promise, Jeffrey served as the senior director of instructional design for Relay Graduate School of Education; led the learning experience design for a popular edtech startup, Zearn Math; and oversaw the development and implementation of the curriculum for the startup teacher residency program that became the Alder Graduate School of Education. He has extensive experience teaching and coaching in K-12 schools, where he helped to codify effective instructional practices that supported the growth of successful charter schools in Massachusetts, New York, and California. Dr. Starr has also taught graduate-level courses for a number of institutes of higher education, where his research interests center on active learning in online spaces, responsive models of professional learning, and digital equity. He earned a B.A. in history and education from Brown University, an M.A. in computing and education from Columbia University’s Teachers College, and an Ed.D. in leadership and innovation from Arizona State University.
