Brief Biography
Laura Thrash graduated from Davidson College with a degree in English, a minor in religion, Phi Beta Kappa honors, and a passion for educational equity. As a Charlotte native and product of the Charlotte Mecklenburg public school system, she saw firsthand the disparities between and within CMS schools. Davidson’s Education Scholars summer program allowed her to work with community partners driving change in and around Charlotte’s education system and resulted in her conviction to help Charlotte students achieve their full potential. Post graduation she worked as the Interim Director of Education and ESL instructor for the International House, a Charlotte nonprofit with the mission of helping recent immigrants integrate into the community. Now in her second year as a Teach For America corps member, Laura has returned to CMS as an eighth grade science teacher in a Title I school.
