Effective July 15, 2021, Mordecai Ian Brownlee became the sixth president of the Community College of Aurora, part of the Colorado Community College System. With campuses in Aurora and Denver, CCA is a Hispanic-Serving institution providing instruction to nearly 12,000 students throughout its 350-square mile service area. Prior to his presidential appointment, Brownlee served as the vice president for student success at St. Philip's College, the only college in the nation federally designated as both a historically Black college and a Hispanic-serving institution, located in San Antonio, Texas.
Brownlee received his Ed.D in Educational Leadership from Lamar University, where he earned the Outstanding Doctoral Student Award for his research regarding Texas House Bill 5 and the future of higher education. Brownlee also holds an M.S. in human resource management and B.A. in mass communication and political science from Houston Baptist University, A.A. in liberal arts from Kingwood College, and an advanced graduate certificate in community college leadership from Dallas Baptist University.
Brownlee is an inclusive educator committed to the intellectual and economic empowerment of diverse communities by collectively partnering with all stakeholders to create a safe and equitable learning environment that promotes student inclusion, student engagement, and student success.
