Peter Lenn was an early pioneer in using a flipped classroom model to dramatically improve outcomes for high school, college, and on-the-job learners. A former rocket scientist with degrees from M.I.T. and Northwestern, he has taught courses ranging from remedial fractions to advanced calculus for engineers. He owned a private high school with three campuses in the San Francisco area, all using flipped classrooms for all academic courses.
His company was the lead contractor for the U.S. Army’s 1125 Combat Arms Battalion Learning Centers worldwide. They produced over 500 hundred of hours of interactive, multimedia lessons with which 85% of learners achieved A-level competence, averaging 40% less time than the previous conventional training.
Based on those experiences, Peter became convinced it would be possible to train younger teens to succeed in conventional classes. His online and summer programs, textbooks and video publications have served over 400,000 students. In follow-up studies 6 and 12 months after these programs over 90% of parents and teens separately reported improvements in grades, responsibility, motivation, and getting along with teachers. Peter authored the Time/LIFE Ace the New SAT course, Houghton-Mifflin-Harcourt’s Learning Power, and a Penguin Book for parents of high school students.
