Brief Biography
Susan Colangelo, MFA, LSU ‘83, is the founding president of the Saint Louis Story Stitchers Stitchers Artists Collective. Susan brings 30+ years of community arts experience and work with six school districts as an artist and consultant to the organization. Specializing in large scale community-school-university programs, she developed WOW! World of Wonder for West Virginia University, bringing the arts to 20,000 school children, and coordinated the first contemporary African music and dance concert at the University of Georgia in Athens. Susan is an advocate of literacy and a proponent of reading aloud to the young. Susan met Carmon Colangelo in 1981 in graduate school at LSU and the two have shared parenthood, travel and art adventures ever since. The mother of three adult daughters, Susan is a strong advocate for diversity and women’s issues and founded Women and the Kemper at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum. Carmon is an artist and dean of the Sam Fox School of Art and Design at Washington University in St. Louis. Since 2006 Susan and Carmon have worked together to strengthen the arts in St. Louis, Missouri.
